My name is Joe Gill and I am a performance tennis coach based in Stirling, Scotland. I have been involved in performance coaching for almost 10 years and have been lead coach, hitting partner and travel coach to a wide variety of players. As a player I competed on the national and futures circuit between 2007 and 2014 whilst attending the University of Stirling as an international scholar. I gained a BA Hons. in Politics and Sport Studies (***) and an MsC in Sport Management (***). I reached a singles ranking of 30 in the British national rankings for the open category and managed to gain an ITF doubles ranking of 1286.
Coaching highlights include:
- Assistant/travel coach to a number of the leading Scottish juniors since 2010. Attended national, Tennis Europe, ITFS and futures events with these players
- Attended all 4 grand slams as an individual coach. Colin Fleming (mens doubles at French Open 2015, 2016 and Wimbledon 2015, 2016); Jonny O'Mara (mens doubles Wimbledon 2018); Gordon Reid (mens wheelchair Australia 2018, 2019, French Open ***, Wimbledon *** and US Open ***); Maia Lumsden (junior girls at US Open 2015); and Ali Collins (junior girls at Australian Open 2017)
- In 2016 I was part of the coaching team that went to Rio Paralympics, where the Great British team won 5 medals including Gordon Reid winning gold in the men's singles.
- Back at base I coach across three venues: University of Stirling, Gleneagles and Bridge of Allan Tennis Club. My time is predominantly with performance level players but I also coach in the mini tennis/development squads and feel I have great adaptability to work with high performance and grass roots tennis.
Other skills include good organisational skills to arrange and plan trips, schedules, timetables etc for individuals and groups; good IT and computer skills to do basic video analysis, editing and match charting (I have done this on the road during tournaments as well as back a base pre or post tournaments); have the ability to drive and have driven teams.
Please note I am currently midway through my LTA SPC Level 4 coaching qualification. Due to be finished June 2020.
