Curriculum

My name is Fabrizio Coviello. I was born in Torino – Italy on December 3rd 1971 and grew up at Circolo della Stampa Sporting, one of the most prestigious Italian tennis club. After competing for the National Junior Championship I moved to California to craft my skills and have an international experience. I am a USPTA Elite Professional and a PTR Professional Performance. I am also certified Maestro Nazionale by the Italian Tennis Federation with the ITF logo on it. It means that I can coach on the ATP/WTA tour. It's a 5 years course at the Istituto Superiore di Formazione “Roberto Lombardi”. I taught tennis in Los Angeles for more than 20 years developing great experiences and knowledge. In 2005 I got hired by Nathan LeGrand and I become his assistant. Nathan is one of the best coach in the States. I learnt many new and modern techniques. The most important, even though sounds banal, is to know how to relax the body before hitting the ball. The result is a better and more efficient stroke, without wasting too much energy. In 2008 I become the Head Pro at the Westwood Tennis Center in Los Angeles owned by Steve Bellamy, an entrepreneur in sports and entertainment best known for creating The Tennis Channel in USA. He invented the Liveball method, a class that has become very popular throughout America. At Westwood I took care of the adult and junior programs. More than 1000 students with 75 classes per week. I also have created a training class called ‘Footwork and Stroke Analysis’. It's based on being near the student, teaching in details all the process to have a great form and the right movements. I especially coached High School Players and College Players among which Clay Thompson, ranked N. 1 in the 2014 NCAA Division 1 and ranked 408 in the 2016 ATP tour. In 2010 I got hired as Junior Director at The Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club in Orange County. It's the club where Michael Chang teaches and promotes charity events. In 2012 I taught private and group lessons at UCLA in Los Angeles. In 2013 I founded my business called Fabrizio Tennis. In 2016 I got hired at the Ace Tennis Center. It's a prestigious tennis academy near my city Torino - Italy. In my tennis career I got to see a lot of group lessons and many ways of teaching. Honestly I think ‘Liveball’ is one of the best method of learning tennis with fun at the same time. The pros of this training are: 1. Great cardio workout. 2. It improves the technique, tactic and gets very competitive. 3. It makes you learn double very quickly. The result will be better volleys, overheads, reflex, net play and stroke approach. 4. Students will get to practice passing shots, top spins and slice forehand and backhand. 5. It helps to develop great footwork and improves agility. 6. ‘Liveball’ is also a great social event within the facility because Liveball classes can go up to 8 players per court. 7. It's a way of training recommended for kids and adults of all levels. 8. It's also beautiful to watch. Many of my clients signed up for the class just watching one session. I also taught Liveball classes with Derrick Rostagno, Ronald Agenor and in 2009 I hired Zack Fleishman, former ATP player, to build a strong training program for college students at the Westwood Tennis Center. Many magazines like Racquet Sport Industry and TennisLife asked my opinion on new teaching techniques and marketing. In September 2010 issue of TennisLife I wrote a personal article about playing the percentages in the new tennis era. You can click on the link http://issuu.com/theguardian-ngr/docs/june20130607/58 to read the article republished by The Guardian. As a player, I joined open tournaments from 1996 to 2005. I reached my best ranking N. 70 in the Southern California Open Division. For further information about me you can check my website at http://fabrizio.usptapro.com. If you click on lessons you will see a two minutes video of my teaching class to some of my students. Outside of tennis, I studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. My professional highlights include “having been able to work with director Spike Lee”. In 1999 I also got a Reiki certificate by Fran Brown. I completed the First Degree in the Usui System of Natural Healing.
