Tennis Head Coach

Job Summary

The association is a college preparatory secondary school for young women in the heart of Silicon Valley. The Tennis Head Coach will report to the Athletic Director and will be responsible for running the Tennis Program, which consists of the varsity and junior varsity teams.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Exhibits a strong competent knowledge of the sport (strategy, adjustments, practice plans and design).
  • Teach students a wide range of skills pertaining to tennis mastery and strategies.
  • Provide opportunities for growth in understanding of sportsmanship and tennis skill development in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the organization.
  • Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of coaching strategies that meet the needs of all students.
  • Maintain a safe environment for athletes and coaches included, but not limited to facility supervision, maintenance of equipment, security of the tennis courts, etc.
  • Write and revise practice plans each day, week and month as it pertains to the program goals.
  • Must comply with Central Coast Section (CCS), California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), West Coast Athletic League (WCAL) and Presentation High School rules, standards, and regulations.
  • Must work cooperatively and responsibly with other program personnel (coaches, Athletic Directors, school Administrators).
  • Attend all required meetings relevant to the tennis program (Presentation, WCAL, CCS, CIF).
  • Develop and oversee the try-out/evaluation process for all levels of competition.
  • Develop effective and positive communication with the student-athletes, parents, program staff and school administration.
  • Communicate effectively and timely with the Athletic Department Staff.
  • Schedule (game and practice), transportation, rosters, etc.
  • Effectively budget for the program needs (current and future) with oversight by the Athletic Director.
  • Other responsibilities as needed and requested by Athletic Director.

Tennis Head Coach qualifications and skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the sport of tennis with at least five years of coaching and program management experience (high school, college or club).
  • Experience working with a diverse group of adolescent student-athletes.
  • Understanding and experience managing a tennis team and staff as well as a tennis facility.
