Team Leader (Head Coach)

Job Summary

Our client) is seeking a Team Leader (Head Coach) responsible for the quality delivery of the agreed weekly schedule of coaching programs at the DTC. In addition, the Team Leader of the coaching business shows leadership by mentoring others, upskilling other coaching staff and provides advice for the continuous improvement of the schedule of coaching programs. The primary aim is to drive increased levels of tennis coaching participation, and demonstrate high standards of customer service and operational excellence.

Venue and Company description

We are Tasmania’s premier tennis facility with 615 members and 200 weekly pennant players and central to schools. With Mount Wellington/kunanyi as a backdrop, the centrally located facility includes a clubhouse with function and meeting rooms, bar, office, retail and member facilities in a magnificent setting overlooking the City of Hobart and the River Derwent.

A lively calendar of events sees the Centre hosting weekly pennants, social tennis, tennis programs, junior and adult events and tournaments. The Hobart International highlights the calendar annually, a women’s lead-in event to the Australian Open, which has been at the Centre since 1994.

The Centre has seven synthetic grass courts, six acrylic hard courts and five synthetic clay courts. Our Mission is Bringing community, health, and wellness through tennis to all.

Job duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

·       Responsible for development and delivery of lesson plans

·       Liaising with key stakeholders to support the outcomes of the role , schools, university, council, other clubs, Tennis Tasmania

·       New members introduction

Required Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

·       Proven experience in delivery of tennis coaching programs

·       Highly level of tennis organisational and operational expertise

·       Ability to be creative and innovative in designing and delivering tennis coaching

·       Ability to grade tennis players

·       Willingness to be flexible regarding work schedules to implement programs

·       Ability to set priorities and plan work programs and meet deadlines

·       Creativity and a passion for growing the game

·       Self-starter with plenty of drive and initiative

·       High level of customer service skills

·       Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·       Strong administrative and record keeping skills

·       Competent in use of program administration software

·       Ability to contribute to DTC social media / newsletters

·       Ability to build strong professional relationships with stakeholders

Candidate qualifications and skills

Performance Indicators

The position will be assessed against Key Performance Indicators. The position will contribute as a team member and will be measured on:

·       Retention – how many repeat for a second lesson/term

·       Increasing programs for community and minority groups

·       Pathway progression – transition from coaching to competition or social tennis

Secondary value adds of the role to the club to be measured are:

·       Increasing overall membership

·       Increase participation in club events / tournaments

·       Increasing activity at centre

·       Increasing a sense of community

·       Integration and follow on to DTC leaseholder businesses such as proshop, catering, gym and allied health

Contract Conditions

·       The start date is February 1, 2023, and is a permanent full time position delivering an agreed-on schedule and hours.

·       Hold a current Tennis Australia Club Professional, Master Club Professional or High-Performance Coach qualification and       any other qualification needed to deliver coaching programs

·       Attend and contribute to short weekly staff meetings

·       To wear club approved apparel

·       Any other reasonable responsibilities at the discretion of the DTC Manager.

·       The successful applicant will have a:

o   valid Working with Vulnerable People Check

o   Current First Aid Level 2, CPR certification
