Full-Time Junior Development Tennis Coach — San Diego, CA
We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and personable full-time junior development tennis coach to work closely with our 12-year-old son in San Diego, California.
Our son has been playing tennis for approximately two years. For the first two years, he trained around 3 hours per week, and over the past two weeks he has transitioned to a full-time training schedule.
We are now looking for the right coach to help him build a strong foundation and develop over the long term.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants to hit with him for three hours a day. We are looking for a coach who sees this as a long-term player development project and believes that meaningful development happens through incremental improvement over time.
Our son is still developing his fundamentals, and we want to build those fundamentals correctly rather than rush the process. The right coach should be patient, observant, analytical, and willing to develop a thoughtful plan that evolves as he progresses.
We are looking for someone who:
The initial focus will be on fundamentals, including:
Working With a Development Team
We believe that developing a young tennis player requires more than tennis instruction.
The coach should be comfortable working as part of a broader development team, including other professionals such as:
Junior fitness/strength and conditioning coaches
Mental performance coaches
Sports psychologists, when appropriate
Other tennis specialists
Tournament/coaching support
The coach should be willing to communicate and collaborate with these professionals, share observations, and incorporate their input into the overall development plan.
We are looking for a coach who is confident enough to lead the tennis development process while also recognizing that other specialists can contribute important expertise.
Coaching Philosophy
Our son has attended camps at Piatti Tennis Academy and really enjoyed the Piatti training approach.
We particularly like the combination of:
More important is finding a coach whose philosophy is consistent with long-term, holistic player development.
The coach does not need to currently live in San Diego.
For the right candidate, we are willing to provide accommodation in our home in San Diego as part of the overall arrangement.
We are therefore open to exceptional candidates from outside San Diego, including candidates who are willing to relocate for the position.
Because the coach may be living in our home, we are looking for someone who is professional, respectful, responsible, and comfortable becoming part of a family environment.
What Success Looks Like
We are not expecting overnight results.
Our goal is to build a player who becomes progressively better through consistent, deliberate improvement.
The right coach will help establish the technical and athletic foundation now while continually evaluating what the next step in his development should be.
We want a coach who can look at where he is today, determine what needs to improve, develop a plan, and then patiently work through that plan — while adapting it as he develops.
Ultimately, we are looking for someone who wants to take a long-term view of the player rather than focusing only on short-term results.
To Apply
Please provide:
We are looking for the right long-term fit, not simply someone available to fill a coaching schedule.
The location is Encinitas, California, in San Diego County.
The initial focus will be on fundamentals, including:
Stroke technique
Footwork and movement
Balance and coordination

Developing good practice habits
The program should evolve as his skills and competitive level develop.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
Significant experience coaching junior players at the academy level
A proven background developing young competitive players
Strong technical knowledge
Experience working with players approximately 10–14 years old
Experience designing structured training programs
A strong understanding of junior player development
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A positive, energetic, and patient coaching personality
Experience with junior fitness/athletic development, or a strong understanding of how tennis and physical development should complement one another
A willingness to work collaboratively with other coaches and specialists
A genuine interest in developing a young player over multiple years
Location & AccommodationThe position is based in San Diego, California.
The coach does not need to currently live in San Diego.
Why This Opportunity?
This is more than a coaching position. It is an opportunity to become part of a long-term player development project.
You will have the opportunity to work intensively with one young player, approximately 18 hours per week, and help build his tennis foundation from the ground up. Rather than working from lesson to lesson, you will have the time and autonomy to develop a structured program, measure progress, make adjustments, and see the results of your work over multiple years.
We also want to build a broader team around the player, including tennis, fitness, and mental-performance professionals. The coach will have the opportunity to collaborate with these specialists and play an important role in coordinating the overall development process.
Why Encinitas?
The position is based in Encinitas, California, one of San Diego's beautiful coastal communities. Encinitas offers an exceptional lifestyle for someone who loves tennis, fitness, and the outdoors:
We are willing to provide visa assistance, travel expenses, accommodation in our home in Encinitas for the right candidate, making this an attractive opportunity for an experienced coach who is currently based elsewhere and is interested in relocating to Southern California.
For the right person, this can provide both a unique professional opportunity and the chance to live in one of the most attractive coastal communities in the San Diego area.
We are looking for someone who sees the potential of this as a long-term partnership and development project, not simply a coaching job.
