Regional Tennis Coach

Job Summary

Kiwi Tennis Hamilton Ltd. is looking for a passionate and experienced Regional Tennis Coach to deliver high-performance coaching across a range of competitive squads and school teams. The coach will primarily be based at the Waikato Tennis Centre in Hamilton, a top-tier regional facility featuring 3 indoor and 11 outdoor hardcourts.

This full-time role involves coaching the Waikato Junior and Senior Regional Squads, as well as leading high-performance training for top secondary school 1st teams:

  • Hamilton Boys’ High School
  • St. Paul’s Collegiate
  • St. Peter’s, Cambridge

In addition, the coach will travel to tournaments, lead teams at representative fixtures, and play a key role in talent identification and player development in collaboration with clubs and schools across the region.

The role will involve both group and private lessons for athletes.

Venue and Company description

The coach will primarily be based at the Waikato Tennis Centre in Hamilton, a top-tier regional facility featuring 3 indoor and 11 outdoor hardcourts.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver group and private lessons for the Waikato Junior and Senior Regional Squads.
  • Coach and support the Hamilton Boys’ High School, St. Paul’s Collegiate, and St. Peter’s Cambridge 1st Teams through both group and one-on-one sessions.
  • Lead and coach teams at regional fixtures, inter school competitions, and national events.
  • Travel with players to local and national tournaments, providing match preparation and courtside coaching.
  • Collaborate with Pete Hoyland, Director of Tennis, and other regional coaches on planning, session design, and player development.
  • Support the talent identification (Talent ID) process within local schools and club-based Kiwi Tennis programmes.
  • Maintain strong communication with athletes, families, schools, and club partners.
  • Help coordinate performance camps, workshops, and development initiatives.
  • Track and report on player progress, attendance, and competition results.

Candidate qualifications and skills

  • Minimum ITF Level 1 (or national equivalent)
  • Experience coaching junior and senior competitive players, particularly at the school and regional levels.
  • Strong leadership in a high-performance tennis environment.
  • Ability to coach and manage players during travel and competitions.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Full NZ driver’s license, current First Aid Certification, and Police Vetting clearance (or willingness to obtain).
