Senior Sports Executive (Development)

The Hong Kong, China Tennis Association (“HKCTA”) is seeking a high caliber candidate for the above position:

Venue and Company description

HKCTA is a National Sports Association (NSA) for tennis in Hong Kong, recognised by both the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). HKCTA currently has more than 40 affiliated member clubs and over 4000 individual members.

HKCTA meets its primary objectives through the organisation of a number of local and international tennis events as well as junior and elite development programmes, a corporate training scheme, coaching certification courses, a Tennis-For-All open enrollment programme, and a mini-tennis initiative for young children, amongst other initiatives.

The Hong Kong Lawn Tennis Association was formed in 1909 by a small group of tennis enthusiasts from recreation clubs in the region, changing to its current name of Hong Kong Tennis Association (HKTA) in 1984. More than 100 years since its inception, HKCTA’s core objectives have remained the same- to promote tennis to all, to nurture talented local players and to raise the standard of the game in Hong Kong through the organisation of tournaments at all levels.

Coordination and administration of HKCTA is carried out by the full-time teams at its offices located at Olympic House in So Kon Po, Causeway Bay and the HKCTA Tennis Centre at Kowloon Tsai.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Assist and report to the Senior Management including CEO, COO and Manager;
  • Manage development & training programs, training facilities of HKCTA, including supervision and management of clerical staff;
  • Prepare and submit annual budgets and providing regular reports on income and expenditure to the Council;
  • Attend meetings of the Committee and provide administrative and secretariat support;
  • Promote development of the sport discipline and assist the media publicity;
  • Liaise with the LCSD, HKSI and other bodies on funding and other relevant matters;
  • Maintain proper administration of the NSA office;
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Two to Four-Year Development Plan of the training programme with a view to raising the standards and broadening the participating base of the sport discipline; and
  • Ensure timely reporting and conscientious compliance with the terms of the LCSD Subvention Agreement.

Candidate qualifications and skills

  • Post secondary qualification with Sports / Physical Education / Recreation as one of the subjects studies;
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant working experience;
  • Knowledge of tennis or sports is an advantage;
  • Willing to take on additional responsibilities and work irregular hours;
  • Being creative, outgoing, flexible, self-driven and a team player;
  • Previous experience in government/NSA/ quasi government organizations preferred; and
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese, knowledge of Mandarin is an advantage.
