Head of Junior Coaching

Job Summary 

We are looking for a coach to join a highly motivated team of coaches to lead its junior programme.

This role will work closely with the Head Coach to help build and develop the current junior programme across the board. There will be a minimum of 15 hours guaranteed to start with, with the chance to grow more.

We have recently introduced Padel to the Club and we have opportunities for the development of junior Padel coaching.

Venue and Company Description

We are a members’ owned rackets Club that specialises in tennis, squash, racketball, and badminton and has recently added Padel. It also provides a gym, table tennis and an active social calendar for its members.

The Club is located just outside the historic market town of Farnham, Surrey and occupies a prime location in the heart of the Bourne district where it has been providing racket facilities since the 1920s.

The rackets sections offer Club nights, internal leagues and coaching programmes for all levels of play and for all ages. Each sport enjoys a high profile in the local and county leagues and members who play at social, county, national and international level. We offer excellent sports facilities, with on-line booking system, including:

  • five floodlit multi-surface tennis courts (two artificial clay, two porous acrylic, one artificial grass) and one indoor multipurpose court
  • floodlit padel court
  • winter Bubble for two outdoor courts
  • five badminton courts
  • four squash courts

It is a friendly Club with an informal atmosphere offering a wide range of facilities for families and members. There is a large lounge with a bar and catering facilities and a large screen television for major sporting and social events, encouraging members to ‘play and stay’.

As a members’ Club it is run by a management committee consisting of elected members and a full-time manager, who is responsible for the organisation and running of the Club. Every sport has its own section committee who are continually active in providing a great facility for members and coaches.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Junior coaching of all ages from 3 year olds (Minis) through to Under 18s predominantly after school and at weekends
  • Junior match plays
  • Help develop, run and organise our junior teams
  • Assist in organising and running holiday and Summer Camps
  • Unlimited one to one coaching (both juniors and adults)In addition, this coach will take part in:
  • Adult group coaching of all standards
  • Adult Club sessions (such as drills, ‘play and pay’, cardio tennis etc)

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

  • LTA Level 2 or above (looking to do level 3)
  • Minimum of 3 years of tennis coaching experience
  • Fluent in English
  • “People” person who enjoys interacting with members, great communication skills and a “can do” attitude
  • Enjoy working with children of all ages
  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail combined with a passion for learning and self-improvement
  • Ideally located in or near the area
  • Strong self-starting work ethic

Additional skills desired but not required:

  • Cardio tennis qualification
  • Racket stringing
  •  Refereeing accreditation
  • LTA Tutoring Skills Certificate
  • Level 1 or 2 Padel coaching qualification
