Job Summary

Havnar Tennisfelag (HTF) is looking for a Head of Performance Coach to join our team for the summer season 2025.
 
The coach will play a vital role in contributing to the development of young tennis players in HTF as well as coach some of the more experienced adult players. The coach will also contribute to advancing the coaching skills of our team of coaches.
 
The newly appointed coach will assist HTF with the planning, management and delivery of tennis courses and as well as help build up Faroe Islands’ elite junior tennis development programme in cooperation with the Head of Development at the Faroe Islands Tennis Association (FITA).
 
You will be joining us in a landmark period for tennis in the Faroe Islands, with a growing club membership as well as preparation for international participation in Tennis Europe Juniors tournaments and collaborations. Moreover, our national men’s and women’s team will participate in the Isle of Man games this summer, as well as the Faroe Islands will be hosting the Island Games in two years.

Venue and Company description

Havnar Tennisfelag (HTF) is located in Gundadalur in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.  The Faroe Islands are an archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean approx. halfway in between Iceland, Norway and Scotland. HTF is member of the Faroe Islands Tennis Association (Tennissamband Føroya), which is the governing body of tennis in the Faroe Islands. In March 2025, the Faroe Islands unanimously became the 51st member of Tennis Europe.
 
We seek to increase the awareness of tennis in the Faroes by providing people of all ages and ambitions to become part of a welcoming and ambitious tennis community with access to superb facilities and high-quality tennis coaching, national competitions and events.
 
Tennis is an all-year round sport in the Faroes. During the summer, HTF club member play outdoors on fitted artificial grass in the HTF club venue in Gundadalur, Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.
 
The Faroe Islands Tennis Association is an ambitious association working with building up collaborations, growth and investment to ensure a sustainable and healthy future for tennis in the Faroe Islands.

Job duties and responsibilities

  • Support the vision for performance tennis, creating opportunities and pathways for talented players to progress and develop.
  • Assist the HTF board with the planning and delivery of the elite junior programme for players 10-16 yrs.
  • Engage with HTF’s coaching team to develop the skills of the individual coach in delivering high-quality coaching to performance and recreational players
  • Encourage and support players within the HTF, taking the lead on identified players for the elite programme
  • Support, manage and deliver national training camps/official teams as part of the junior elite programme.
  • Support, manage and deliver tennis camps for coaches
  • Attend key local tournaments and events
  • Attend HTF meetings and performance team meetings.
  • Undertake additional duties as allocated from time to time by FITA in the elite programme

Candidate qualifications and skills

  • Experience and success in a similar role with demonstrated results.
  • Experience with working with juniors and adults alike.
  • Ability of working effectively and collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate exceptional personal communications skills with the ability of building and maintaining productive, professional relationships
  • Deliver training camps and assisting in co-ordinating national tournaments for players
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of coaches and practitioners to support the planning and reviewing of players’ individual development plans
  • Experience in working in a performance programme for junior players
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of the technical, tactical, physical, psychological demands and developments with regards to junior players
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of how to engage, communicate and motivate young players as well as building and managing relationships of trust and influence with aspiring players, families and other coaches
  • An understanding of the requirements of running a high-performance programme for
    developing young tennis players
  • English and/or Scandinavian language competencies
