Associate Tennis Professional

Job Summary 

Our Club has a great opportunity  for an Associate Tennis Professional who will work closely with the Assistant Director of Tennis to lead the tennis program for one of the most prestigious country clubs in the in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Associate Tennis Professional focuses on the following services:

  • Introduce tennis and pickleball to every member encouraging play
  •  Provide lessons to both adults and juniors that are fun and to help them see improvement
  • Maintain records of all weekly private and group lessons, ensuring they are properly recorded  in advance in the reservation module
  • Work with Assistant Director to create a general lesson plan for  clinics before the first session
  • Assist Pro Shop Manager when shop is busy and/or needs assistance helping members
  • Help develop and create new tennis programs, activities and events
  • Strive to upgrade professional rating and increase the quality of teaching by maintaining close ties with either the USPTA/USPTR
  • Continue further education by attending USPTA or USPTR seminars
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings as necessary

Venue and Company Description

Our Club is located in close proximity to the Nation’s Capital, just one of the many attractions of membership. The Georgian-style clubhouse sits on one of the highest points in historic Arlington, Virginia. It looks out over one of the most beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf courses in the region and offers views across the Potomac River to the skyline of Washington, D.C. Situated on over 130 aces, the complex also includes a newly renovated golf course, a new, state of the art golf practice facility, putting and practice greens, a swimming pool, 10 outdoor tennis courts, a five-court indoor tennis facility, and a recently renovated, well-equipped fitness center.

The clubhouse features formal and informal dining rooms, a tap room, a men’s grill, a ladies lounge, various outdoor dining areas, as well as a cocktail lounge, meeting and party rooms accommodating groups of 18 to 60 persons, and a large, attractive ballroom, with a capacity of 300-400.

The Club has approximately 1,450 members, each of whom has the privileges of all amenities. We have a healthy waiting list.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate must be an individual focused on blending their skill set into the team-oriented culture that is Washington Golf and Country Club.  The person should be ready to use their communication talents with members and staff, have a deep grasp of coaching so they can teach individuals of all levels, and have the ability to inspire students and coworkers. The candidate should be passionate about tennis and willing to engage with all members to promote the tennis program and deliver an exceptional experience.  The individual must be focused on continuing their career in the tennis profession and strive to lead others to success.

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a private member-owned country club is preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • High school diploma or GED; a 4-year college degree preferred
  • 4+ years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Must be certified by the USPTA or the USPTR
  • Demonstrated organization and coordination skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Expert knowledge of mechanics of all tennis strokes
  • Understands the needs/maintenance of indoor hard courts and outdoor soft courts
  • Ability to play tennis at 5.0 N.T.P.R. rating
  • Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs in areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills to a wide variety of constituents
  • Must have excellent interpersonal/relationship-building skills
  • Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service
