This is an employed position residing in Portsmouth. The Head Coach will oversee and coordinate the overall programme of Tennis development.
1.1 To manage and develop a high quality all round programme which caters for all ages and abilities.
1.2 To assess the programme quality and results regularly and adapting where necessary to ensure the programme and the centre usage continues to grow, liaising with Centre Manager about any changes.
1.3 To deliver a minimum of 15 hours coaching per week.
1.4 To lead a fit for purpose coaching team, ensuring they deliver with high quality and ensuring all safeguards and training are in place.
1.5 To manage and ensure clear pathways for all programme players is clear and transparent.
1.6 To manage and develop an outstanding outreach programme for Tennis enabling greater access to the communities of Portsmouth working with Portsmouth School Sport Partnership and LTA.
1.7 To plan and coordinate an outstanding calendar of competitive opportunities for adults and juniors m including internal tournament, Team Challenge and entry into leagues.
1.8 To deliver company, LTA and City Tennis objectives.
1.9 To manage the promotion of our Tennis Centre through social media, open days, events and marketing collateral, linking with the marketing team.
1.10 To manage communication between players, parents and coaches to ensure they are strong through quarterly parents evenings/forums.
1.11 Create a talent identification programme for assessing young people in a variety of sessions and to provide a talent development programme.
1.12 Work with the Centre Manager, Portsmouth City Council and the LTA to produce and deliver a strategic Portsmouth Tennis Development Plan.
1.13 Be responsible for the on-going development of the Tennis Centre's coaches (paid and voluntary). Establish a mentoring system to raise the quality of coaching across the whole programme. Organise ‘in house’ training and regular development meetings.
1.14 Establish a programme of accredited coach education/development courses at Portsmouth.
1.15 Act as a point of contact for local clubs to advise and assist in club development and coach education.
1.16 Work with the Centre Manager to establish and maintain budgets for individual elements of the programme.
1.17 To produce reports regarding the on-going development of the Tennis Centre.
1.18 To act as a key holding member of the Centre Management team, where required and be responsible for the opening and closing of the centre and emergency call outs as required.
1.19 To cover as Duty Manager with associated responsibilities as required.
1.20 To ensure the Centre is presented and its reputation maintained to the highest standards.
1.21 To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Centre and General Managers.
2.1 Experience of training and managing tennis coaches of all ages and standards.
2.2 A track record of growing players on programme to increasing playing opportunities for the community.
2.3 Experience of managing a large programme that caters for all ages and abilities.
2.4 Experience of working with LTA and Tennis Foundation as well as Local Councils.
2.5 A proven track record of engaging with the community.
2.6 Experience of coaching beginners to high performing players.
2.7 Experience of using software packages and social media to improve the customer journey
3.1 Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels.
3.2 Ability to lead and motivate others to showcase role model behaviour.
3.3 Working to clear deadlines throughout the tennis seasons.
3.4 Computer literate in a variety of software packages.
3.5 Understanding of marketing and social media opportunities.
4.1 A good knowledge of the local area and community tennis.
4.2 Existing relationship with the LTA.
