Elena Baltacha, currently number 63 in the WTA ranking, is the next opponent of Sorana (WTA ranking 35) in Strassbourg. Looking at the ranking, she should be able to make it to the next round. But we all know that in tennis anything is possible.
Yesterday Ayumi Morita had to play against Anastasia Rodionova . Ayumi played very well and at a score of 5-1 in the third set, with two matchpoints on her service, we thought it was a done deal. But as I said before anything is possible and unfortunately for Ayumi she lost the following 6 games and therefore the match. Big dissappointment obviously, but these things happen.
Even the fact that Sorana was present during the match for support was not enough. we often try to make room in our training schedules to support fellow team members because we have seen the positive effect of it many times. It can give the player just that little bit extra to win a match. And it can also lead to other partnerships. For example this week Sorana and Ayumi have decided to play the doubles together during Wimbledon.
Mats is staying at his parents house in Germany this week. If you are travelling 30 weeks (or more) per year, you will grab every opportunity to visit friends and family. Even if it's just for a few days. Today Mats will take the train to Paris to work with Daren Cahill. They will prepare Fernanda Gonzalez and Thiemo de Bakker for Roland Garros 2010.
Kind regards,
Sven
