Top seed Venus Williams overcame a set down and defeated Polona Hercog from Slovenia in the final of the clay court in Acapulco.
Williams won the Mexican tournament last year and this victory was her 43rd WTA success of her career. It also continued a good run of form for the American who won the WTA tournament on the hard courts of Dubai last week.
"I played such a good opponent," admitted Williams. "In the first set she did not miss one shot and I had to find a way to get into the match."
